Vegan Homemade Brown Gravy

I'm from the south and you have to know how to make a good homemade brown gravy. Top rice, grits, vegan meatballs or a vegan loaf with this flavorful gravy to enjoy anytime of the day.


  • 2 tbsp Vegan Butter

  • 4 tbsp Olive Oil

  • 4 tbsp All-purpose flour

  • 2 cups Water

  • 1/2 onion (diced/ slices)

  • 1 tbsp of green seasoning (optional)

  • 1 bouillon cube (Chick-less/Beef-less)

  • Salt To taste

  • Pepper To taste


  1. Heat the butter, oil and onions in a saucepan over medium high heat for 3 mins.

  2. Add flour and mix continue stirring until the mixture golden brown.

  3. Gradually, add water (1/2 cup at a time) while constantly mixing to prevent lumps.

  4. Continue mixing until smooth.

  5. Add bouillon cube, green seasoning. salt and pepper and let it simmer for a few more minutes until it thickens to your preference.

Note: Add more water if it's too thick.
